Having trouble giving up your favorite chips and dip? The folks at NBC affiliate WOAI’s San Antonio Living invited registered dietitian and expert nutritionist Dr. Felicia Stoler to the show to help viewers make healthier food choices. Stoler, the author of Living Skinny in Fat Genes, organized a delicious display: a table comprised half of unhealthy fats, such as chips and high-calorie snack bars, and half of healthy fats, such as Malaysian red palm fruit oil. She explained healthy fats are necessary because certain vitamins, such as vitamins A and E, are fat soluble and rely on fats to be absorbed into the body. A proper balance of saturated and unsaturated fats may also help manage healthy cholesterol. What is Dr. Stoler’s advice for fighting an unhealthy craving? “If you just have a little taste,” she says, “that’s enough to satisfy you.”
