Prepare for your mind to be blown! Appearing on the CBS TV show, Great Day Houston, Nutrition Myth Buster Jonny Bowden, Ph.D., CNS, told viewers science-backed truths about saturated fat, cholesterol and heart disease that probably shocked them. Among them: 

  1. Powerful research shows that the people who eat the most saturated fat have no more heart disease than the people who avoid it; 
  2. The longest-running study of diet and heart disease shows that people who have the highest cholesterol live the longest; and 
  3. Palm oil has unfairly gotten a bad reputation. Red palm oil is loaded with carotenoids, tocotrienols and other nutrients while some other “heart-healthy” oils are pro-inflammatory. 

He concluded, “There are many wonderful things about cholesterol. You get your vitamin D from it. It’s involved with memory, thinking and the immune system. Trying to lower it is crazy and has done us a great disservice.”
