Rogue Nutritionist Dr. Jonny Bowden encouraged Sonoran Living viewers to switch from inflammatory vegetable oils to sustainable Malaysian red palm fruit oil. During an interview on ABC affiliate KNXV, Bowden told host Terri Ouellette that palm oil contains an abundance of antioxidants called carotenoids (which provide the oil’s natural red hue) and a form of vitamin E known as tocotrienols that may help protect the brain against stroke damage. Ouellette was especially interested to learn that Malaysian palm fruit oil has a high smoke point, meaning it won’t break down when used for high-temperature cooking. Non-GMO Malaysian palm fruit oil is also found in many common products including Nutella and Luna bars.
