palm oil

At risk of heart disease? Viewers nationwide learn palm oil can help.

I got straight to the point when I appeared as a guest on the nationally syndicated, Better Show. I reminded the hosts that heart disease is still the number one killer in this country. But, I also said that there are simple things we can do to keep our hearts healthy, such as including Malaysian sustainable palm oil in our diet. This nutritious oil is found in many food products. In addition to heart health, its tocotrienols help protect our brain if we suffer a stroke.

Although many people fear cancer, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women. Many families, including mine, have a history of heart disease. I’m fortunate to work in a field where I’ve learned a lot about staying healthy. It helps me take the necessary steps to undo anything that may be in my generic makeup.

Here are the suggestions I shared with Better Show viewers:

Look for products made with palm oil instead of trans fats.

Research has shown that that eating trans fat raises your bad cholesterol while lowering your good cholesterol. Luckily, a lot of food manufacturers have reformulated their products to reduce or eliminate trans fats. A healthier replacement is Malaysian sustainable palm oil, which is naturally trans fat free. Palm oil has the right balance of saturated to polyunsaturated fat which helps manage cholesterol. It’s now found in many products including Smart Balance and Olivio spreads, Luna bars and Nutella.

Don’t avoid eating fats, just choose wisely.

Fat consumption recommendations have shifted over the past 15 years. We now recognize that we really do need fat in our diet to transport vitamins A, D, E and K. We also need the essential fatty acids. We should, however, choose healthy fats. Nuts are great because they provide us with some feeling of fullness or satiety. Malaysian sustainable palm oil is rich in vitamin E tocotrienols which help protect our brain from stroke damage. Since we never know if we’re going to have a stroke, it is good to include this oil in our daily diet. Malaysian sustainable palm oil is found in nature. We just have to harness it to protect our hearts.
