Maybe it’s holiday stress creeping up on you. Or maybe it’s just a regular week where you packed a little too much into your schedule. Registered Holistic Nutritionist Andrea Donsky joined FOX’s Everyday morning show in Denver to help viewers find ways to support their immune systems. She suggested including Malaysian certified sustainable palm oil in your diet because it’s loaded with beneficial antioxidants and vitamins.

“Palm fruit oil is a superfood,” Donsky explained to viewers. It’s loaded with nutrients like vitamin E tocotrienols, which are important for heart and brain health. “And do you see its beautiful color?” she asked. “It’s from carotenes.” She explained that Malaysian certified sustainable palm oil is loaded with beta carotene and lycopene, both potent antioxidants. Beta-carotene is an antioxidant that helps support the body’s immune system, and red palm oil has more of it than tomatoes or carrots.

Donsky is passionate about living a healthy, non-GMO lifestyle, and one that includes healthier-for-you fats. “With respect to fats, it seems we go to great lengths to avoid them,” she has said. “While it’s true we should watch our fat intake, avoiding fats completely is actually bad for our health. Fats are an essential part of our diet. We should be getting approximately 25 percent of our daily calories from fats.”

Malaysian certified sustainable palm oil is good choice because its fatty acid profile is a balance of saturated to unsaturated fats. Balanced fatty acids reduce inflammation, while oils high in only omega-6s such as sunflower, soybean, safflower and canola may be detrimental to your joints and immune system.

Palm oil also has a high smoke point, so Donsky suggested using it for stir fry or eggs. It has a neutral flavor profile, so it’s also easy to substitute this healthy oil in any of your favorite holiday recipes.

Keeping our bodies at the top of our game during the busiest times of the year is important if we want to feel our best.
