Superfoods are nutrient-dense foods that are known to be beneficial for the body. Nutrition expert Jonny Bowden, PhD, CNS, shared several of his favorites when he appeared on Charlotte’s NBC station, WCNC. He talked about black elderberry, blueberries, dark chocolate and healthy fats.
Fats can help you avoid overeating. “Fat is the most satiating nutrient of all,’ Bowden explained. “When you have a high-fat, high-protein breakfast, you are not hungry at 11 o’clock in the morning.” He also mentioned a Malaysian study which showed that fat intake has little-to-no impact on heart disease risk factors. It’s diets with high amounts of carbohydrates that tend to lead to conditions associated with heart disease. Bowden said Malaysian palm oil was also a rich source of tocotrienols.
