MEDIA BUZZ: Viewers of the Fox lifestyle program Good Day Alabama received tips on how to spring clean their diets by choosing foods made with better-for-you fats such as Malaysian certified sustainable palm oil. Registered dietitian nutritionist Felicia Stoler brought some of those products containing Malaysian palm oil to the popular daytime show to demonstrate how viewers may already be getting healthy palm oil in their diets.

Anchor Mike Dubberly learned that microwave popcorn isn’t necessarily bad for you. Stoler explained, “It depends on the ingredients. This particular one has certified sustainable Malaysian palm oil. What we know about it is it’s naturally trans-fat free, it’s non-GMO, it’s organic.”

Malaysian sustainable palm oil is found in more than just popcorn. “It’s also the extra special ingredient that’s found in all the Smart Balance line,” said Stoler. Malaysian sustainable palm oil is also found in products ranging from some ramen noodles to peanut butter.

Stoler also pointed out some of the additional health benefits of Malaysian certified sustainable palm oil. Red palm oil’s beautiful orange-red color comes from naturally occurring carotenoids: 15 times more than carrots and 30 times more than tomatoes. Palm oil is also nature’s richest source of tocotrienols, powerful antioxidants which support brain and heart health.  It also contains fatty acids, the raw materials for building the membranes of every cell in the body, including bones, nerves and the brain!

Malaysian certified sustainable palm oil is grown responsibly. Oil palm provides the highest yield of oil per land used when it is compared to the other oil-bearing crops such as soy and canola. Malaysia’s sustainable cultivation and processing of oil palm also requires fewer fertilizers, pesticides and fuel than other oil crops.

Malaysian certified sustainable palm oil makes spring cleaning your diet even easier than spring cleaning your house.

It’s as easy as looking for palm oil in the ingredient labels of your favorite foods. Almost all the palm oil used in the United States is sourced from Malaysia, where it is grown and manufactured sustainably, so it’s as good for the environment and good for you!
