Teach kids to look for palm oil on ingredient lists. Many food manufacturers have substituted natural Malaysian sustainable palm oil for partially hydrogenated oil.
Most American manufacturers prefer Malaysian palm oil because it is grown and produced responsibly. The country has strict standards in place which protect the environment as well as the palm oil industry workers.
While moderation is still recommended, some candy manufacturers are trying to do the right thing by making gluten-free choices, using eco-friendly ingredients and insisting on higher quality ingredients.
Viewers of CBS TV affiliate KGBT in Texas learned how to help their kids’ brains stay sharp by feeding them the right foods. “You’ve got to reduce inflammation,” advised guest Jonny Bowden, Ph.D., CNS. He said to stop using the two most inflammatory things in the American diet: sugar and vegetable oils. “I like Malaysian palm oil because it’s sustainable and it doesn’t contribute to inflammation.”
