Junk food is hard to resist. And according to registered dietitian nutritionist Felicia Stoler, “The more that you have, the more that you want, especially with salty foods and with sweets.”  

She suggests fighting back by getting your fat fix. For decades, many Americans believed that fat consumption was not healthy, but Stoler explained that we need to eat fats. Fats make you feel full.

All fats, however, are not the same. “We need good-for-you fats,” she explained. “Tuna, salmon and nuts are awesome … eating an avocado is a like eating a slice of a multivitamin.”

We love that Stoler also included Malaysian certified sustainable palm oil in her better-for-you fat list. She explained that Malaysian palm oil has been used as a replacement for partially hydrogenated oils, the source of trans fats. Trans fats have been associated with increased heart disease, stroke and diabetes risk.

She added the palm oil is rich in nutrients. “It has tocotrienols, which is a very potent form of vitamin E which is good for our brain. It also has beta carotene, which is a very good antioxidant.”
